Our Author of the Month for August is the awesome Jennifer Gray

Jennifer GrayHi Everyone,

Thank you for asking me to be Author of the Month. New Zealand is somewhere I've always wanted to visit and it's a real thrill to know that you are enjoying the books on the other side of the world. (My oldest daughter has just returned from South Island and says it's fab!)

Most of you will know me for the Atticus Claw series. The books were inspired by our gorgeous tabby cat, Henry. Henry came to us from Battersea Cats & Dogs Home and right from the beginning I knew there was something very special and rather mysterious about him. Was it his chewed ear? Or his vivid green eyes? Or the fact that he chose me? Or that no one had a clue what he was doing at an animal rescue centre in the first place? It got me thinking. What if Henry was hiding something about his past? What if he was waiting until the right person came along to adopt him? What if he wasn't the gorgeous tabby he pretended to be?

What if, in his fictional life, he was really the world's greatest cat burglar?

And that was that. The rest of it I put together with my youngest daughter, Kirstin (who was about 10 at the time), on a car journey to school. A name to remember - Atticus Grammaticus Cattypuss Claw; the villainous magpie gang - Jimmy, Thug and Slasher; the kids who make Atticus think twice about his life of crime - Michael and Callie; and, best of all, a snappy title - Atticus Claw Breaks the Law.

Since then Atticus Claw has become the world's greatest cat detective. He's Settled a Score, Lent a Paw, Gone Ashore, Learned to Draw, been to the Misty Moor and Heard a Roar. All of the books have been magical to write and hopefully to read. (People often ask me if I have a favourite and honestly, I don't.)

Finally I'd just like to point out that Atticus is a very well travelled cat and, unlike me, has probably already been to New Zealand and almost certainly had an exciting adventure while he was there. So if anyone can think of a title for a new book (rhyming of course) then I'd love to hear from you!
