Lee Child continued to top the charts for most-issued book in 2017, his most recent Jack Reacher novel is The Midnight Line.
You would think after 22 separate outings, Child’s Reacher novels would be losing pace, but according to critics, if anything his writing and plot lines are getting better.
If you’ve never read Lee Child before, start from the beginning – The Killing Floor (first published 30 years ago) is the first Jack Reacher novel.
Fiona McCallum is a close contender to Child. Her books are Australian outback romances, known as ‘red dust romance’. Her latest novel Finding Hannah has been very well received and its sequel Making Peace is due out in April.
Authors who have made a comeback in 2017 include Wilbur Smith with his latest in the Courtenay family saga War Cry and Jeffrey Archer with the latest in the Clifton Chronicles This was a Man.
Local authors take out the most popular non-fiction in 2017, with Ron Perano’s What an Adventure! The story of my life taking out the top spot and Alan Scott’s, autobiography Marlborough Man a close second. Both are very interesting books about the inception and formation of two of Marlborough’s largest industries and these two local entrepreneurs personal histories.
