Popular Summer Reading Programme for Children is Back

The ever-popular Summer Reading Programme is back this year with Carnival as its theme.

Registration for The Great Reading Carnival, Te Taiopenga Panui Hira, begins next Monday, 9 December, 2019, at 9 am and runs through to Friday 17 January, 2020. You can register at either Picton Library or Marlborough District Library (Blenheim) from this date.

The programme is for 5 - 12 year olds, and aims to keep children reading over the long summer break from school. It makes reading an enjoyable way to pass time; something to have fun doing over the holidays.

There is no set amount of books participants need to read, however they do need to visit the library at least four times over the six week period that the programme runs to check in with a librarian, this is called a report-in. At the report-in, the child tells the librarian about books read and receives an incentive or prize for reading. At the fourth report-in, the final prize is the childs choice of a book.

So head down to your local library from this Monday 9 December at 9 to join the reading circus this summer. But be quick, spaces are limited.

N.B. An adult must register for a children and registrations must be made in person.
