Database of the Day - Oxford Music Online

This resource is one of several databases provided free by Marlborough District Libraries. All you need is your library card number and PIN (usually your year of birth).

Oxford Music Online is the home of Grove Music Online and includes the New Grove Dictionary of Opera and the New Grove Dictionary of Jazz, plus access to The Oxford Dictionary of Music and The Oxford Companion to Music. The publication has an impressive history, with the first edition of Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians printed in 1879.

One of the Oxford suite of databases, this is an excellent resource offering comprehensive coverage of music, musicians, music-making, and music scholarship. Musical genres range from classical and opera to blues and jazz.

Search options include by topic, instrument, era, regions, or occupation. Topics include compositional practice and technique, conducting methods and techniques, ethnomusicology and sound studies.
