Donations Policy

Marlborough District Libraries are happy to receive donated items which enhance the collection.

Gifts of books or other materials in good condition are accepted on the understanding that items not added to collections will be disposed of, at the discretion of the Library. These items may be added to our sale, given to other libraries, or discarded.

Donations must:

  • Be published within the last two years
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Have current content
  • Have relevance to the residents and ratepayers of Marlborough District Council
  • Be in a format currently being used by Library customers

Donations of DVDs are only accepted if they have been certified by the New Zealand Office of Film and Literature Classification.

Donations are not returned to the donor.

If a donation is accepted for the general collection, it will be processed and located at one of the Library’s locations. Items will be withdrawn from the collection when they are no longer suitable for library use.

Donations assessed as having heritage value will become part of the Marlborough Collection.
