Terms and Conditions of Use

Our Sewing Stations service provides the community with access to sewing machines and accessories. The Library Sewing Stations include a sewing machine, an overlocker, an iron and ironing board.

The following Terms and Conditions of Use are designed to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive environment for all users and should be read in full.

By requesting a Marlborough District Libraries room for hire and adding the Sewing Station as a free bookable asset, you are required to accept the Terms and Conditions of Use for using the sewing stations.

By using the Library Sewing Stations you will be deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions of Use.

Please retain a copy of these Terms and Conditions of Use for your reference and ensure that you are aware of the responsibilities of hire.

In this these Terms and Conditions of Use, unless the context otherwise requires:

Council means the Marlborough District Council.

Library means Marlborough District Libraries (Marlborough Library at Te Kahu o Waipuna and Picton Library and Service Centre).

Non-Commercial Users means any User who uses the sewing patterns, designs or materials for personal or hobby purposes rather than for profit or business.

Sewing Stations designated area in the Library where tools and materials needed for sewing are organized and easily accessible.

User means the person(s) who is using the Sewing Station Services at the Library.

Before using the Sewing Stations, please read these Terms and Conditions of Use carefully and in full:

  • Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Library assumes no responsibility or liability for any injuries, damage to self, others or property resulting from the use or reliance on any part of the Sewing Stations.
  • Responsibility for equipment: The User accepts responsibility for the Sewing Stations equipment while they are using it and may be liable for costs for any damage incurred by their use. The Library reserves the right to seek compensation for any damages caused.
  • Availability: The days and times of the Sewing Station availability will be advertised on the Library website and may be changed from time to time by the Library. The Library reserves the right to modify or cancel bookings at its discretion.
  • Booking: It will be possible to book Sewing Stations through the room hire service on the Library website within the advertised hours of availability. Users must vacate the station promptly at the end of their booking time.
  • Charges: Standard room charges will apply. For Non-Commercial Users, bookings are free for a maximum duration of 2 hours, after which the User will be charged for the use of the room at the current hire room rate.
  • Fairness: In the interests of fairness, the Library may limit access or booking duration depending on User demand.
  • Age Requirement: The User must be at least 15 years of age to use the sewing stations or be accompanied by an adult who must be actively supervising.
  • Safety Instructions: The User will be provided with a sheet of general safety instructions which must be read before using the equipment. Users must adhere to all safety guidelines.
  • Operating Instructions: Operating instructions by the manufacturer will be made available for the User. The User is expected to follow these instructions.
  • Staff Assistance: Library staff will not be available to help customers learn to sew or to provide sewing guidance.
  • Materials: The User must supply their own materials for sewing. This includes but is not limited to fabric, zips or other fastenings, and extra thread and bobbins.
  • Sewing Equipment: All equipment supplied by the Library must remain with the sewing station, including instruction manuals.
  • Hazards and Safety Concerns: The User will inform Library staff of any hazard, safety concerns, or equipment problems.
  • Responsible Use: The User is expected to use the equipment responsibly. Any irresponsible behaviour will result in cancellation of the session.
  • Cleanup: The User will cease all work and start cleanup 15 minutes before their booking time ends.
  • End of Session: The User is required to unplug the iron, clear the sewing area, and check for fallen pins and needles before leaving it.
  • Notification: The User must notify a Library staff member when they have finished with the equipment so that it can be checked and secured.
  • Legal Obligations: Users are responsible for understanding their legal obligations under copyright, trademark, patent and industrial law as well as their moral obligations to protect their own and others’ intellectual property.
  • Privacy: The Library is a busy place and while we will endeavour to protect the privacy of the Users’ work, we cannot guarantee that it will not be seen by other customers.

By using the Library Sewing Stations, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by these Terms and Conditions of Hire.
